Someone...grab the bug spray! Bugs have attacked Room 17 and 16! The children have enjoyed learning how to draw insects! The insects will be used as our own individual art pieces and then re-drawn onto our fence which will be placed down on the field. Check back for progress!
THANKS FOR HELPING US LIDIA!
YUCKY BUGS ARE GOOD FOR US!
Together we watched a clip about insects that are yucky but help us...check it out!We had a great discussion about keeping the balance in nature and will revisit this throughout the inquiry!
Brainstorming what we already know....
What actually makes an insect?
Both classes took a closer look, so we had some background knowledge...Click below to visit the page...click NEXT on the bottom right to go through the slides!
ECO-SYSTEMS- WHAT ARE THEY? Room 17 needed to take a closer look... We then went searching for eco-systems around the school! There are lots of ecosystems... Worm Farm, Compost bin, Native garden, Sensory garden ANY GARDEN!
We learnt some scientific words too like ... Population, Community, non- living and living ( Abiotic and biotic)Environmental factors WOW!
Checking out what insects we could find around our mini ecosystems at ROPS!
We actually found it hard to find lots of insects around the school... WHY??
Was it because people had been hunting for them already?
Do we need to try and attract more insects?
Did it have something to do with Winter?
Matiu was our class Entomologist, finding the most and reporting back his findings clearly!
3d Insect Art
We knew what made an insect so we thought we would have a go at making one each!
We learnt a lot about paper mache- like using our hands to smooth down the paper gets the BEST results!
We had to think about our shapes to ensure we could make our bugs look realistic.
Painting was tough, we had to wait and paint layers for the best effect!
Those legs didn't want to stick either.
Lucky we overcome the challenges and learnt together...come and check the final ones out in person!
Insect Reports
Mr Hunt sent us all on an insect information treasure hunt! We were learning about habitats, diets, predators and interesting facts about a chosen bug!
We went back to class and sorted the information and wrote a report on our chosen bug!
Room 17 had to remember all the things from Term 2 when we practised our report writing...
Then we all wrote another report on ..... COCKROACHES
We all watched a video on cockroaches and took notes as a class. Together we sorted the notes we had taken!
One morning our class was interrupted by this guy...
and then we began our individual report writing journey...
Check out some amazing reports!
What are we going to do about attracting bugs to school? Some of the ideas...
Put food that they like around.
Take bugs from another place and bring them to school?
We think we might put something in the school that attracts bugs...
Here are some of our designs!
Dig It Garden Trip
We had a great time at the gardens. Take a peek at our video report!
